A thrift shop find lured me because of its carving.
Quite weak and very damaged, it was held together with duct tape.
I can handle it.
With wood glue and filler, the joints and damaged legs won't be noticed.
Clamped and left to dry overnight.
After the glue and filler dried, I sanded off the excess to smooth out the shape.
Then upholstered the seat with a new cover.
A velvet, warm colored, stripe fabric.
Planning to paint the chair, I protected the carving with plastic wrap. I didn't plan to paint that part. After all, it's what attracted me to the fixer upper. It needs to be accentuated!
Then I spray painted the rest of the chair with Rust Oleum in black gloss .
See how well the filler worked!
Then hand painted around the rose and leaves with black paint...
Then replaced the seat.
Now she looks so pretty!
I LOVE< LOVE< LOVE> the Black chair! Beautiful Job! Way to go!

My grandmother had a dining set with these chairs, and your post caught my eye immediately. I adore how you saved and redid the chair. Highlighting the carving was genius. The black paint, stained wood carving, and upholstery all work together beautifully. I'm so glad you shared this with us at Treasure Box Tuesday- pinned! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I love that you left the flower the original wood color. Thank you for linking up at Pin worthy Wednesday. Pinned!
ReplyDeleteI love the black. It really lets the seat cover shine. There's a great contrast between the flower and the chair which also makes it stand out. This is great. Thanks for sharing with Creative Style.

ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to Marvelous Monday on Smart Party Planning.
Aw, thanks so much, Catherine! I always enjoy your link up and everyone's posts.
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful, I really like how you handled the painting around the carving. You've given me hope for one of my loved pieces of furniture where the legs have been chewed by a naughty puppy.
ReplyDeleteAmazing transformation! I love it! I especially like the way you accentuated the carving on top. Great job!
ReplyDeleteWood filler and sanding before painting can help those chewed up areas. If you plan to stain, you can add some of your stain to the filler before applying it. Good luck with the repair; I hope it works out! :) Thank you, Stella.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Christie. :)
ReplyDeleteIn a zillion years when I actually get around to working on it I'll send you pics! Thanks for your help :o)
ReplyDeletewhat a great transformation!! It looks fabulous.
