Chair Makeover: Miss Rose

A thrift shop find lured me because of its carving. 

Quite weak and very damaged, it was held together with duct tape. 

I can handle it. 

With wood glue and filler, the joints and damaged legs won't be noticed. 

Clamped and left to dry overnight. 

After the glue and filler dried, I sanded off the excess to smooth out the shape. 

Then upholstered the seat with a new cover. 

A velvet, warm colored, stripe fabric. 

Planning to paint the chair, I protected the carving with plastic wrap. I didn't plan to paint that part. After all, it's what attracted me to the fixer upper. It needs to be accentuated! 

Then I spray painted the rest of the chair with Rust Oleum in black gloss .

See how well the filler worked! 

 Then I lightly sanded and re stained some areas of the carving. 

Then hand painted around the rose and leaves with black paint...

and into some of the crevices of the carving. 

Then replaced the seat. 

Now she looks so pretty!
