Seasonal Scents Comfort the Home

 If there is one thing that rejuvenates the soul, it's aroma. Attractive scents can either calm you or energize you. I recently posted how autumn traditions bring comfort with favorite baking scents such as apples and pumpkins flowing from the kitchen throughout the home. 

Sometimes there just isn't time in a busy schedule to bake that favorite pumpkin recipe. All that is desired at the end of a busy day is the comfort of home. A cozy atmosphere can be transformed into any room with a soothing scent. 

I love using apple and cinnamon mixed fragrances in the kitchen all throughout the year. But, during autumn and the holidays, pumpkin is my favorite.  It gives a warm feeling after coming inside from the crispy outdoors. 

The Heritage Collection - Fall and Holiday Edition from Chesapeake Bay Candle® embraces autumn with this Pumpkin Latte candle. It smells delicious with the hint of maple and brown sugar which is a perfect addition for some sweetness in the kitchen. 

Vanilla Biscotti is another soothing scent with a touch of toasted almonds that I chose to use in the bathroom. Guests will appreciate it as much as I do because it's not overbearing while giving an inviting atmosphere. 

The simple design of the jar is suitable for any room and the wooden top easily blends into the decor. 

I have never smelled the scent of Firewood Fig before this collection. I fell in love with it. Making it my favorite of all that I've tried. It has a light wood fragrance with an attitude of sophistication. It creates a pleasant greeting for the foyer. 

And again, the jar compliments the decor of the space. When decorating a room, the scent completes the entire ambience.

This candle is perched on my fireplace mantle with an array of pine cones and nuts. The cinnamon scent has me thinking about starting my shopping list while taking in the aroma. 

Although Snow by the Shore is in the Holiday collection ... I like it so much that I could use it all year long. It's my favorite of the three. It's so fresh! With a floral sensation, it has a perky aroma. Perfect to work with while keeping happy spirits flowing. 

(Nobody needs to know that I'm burning a holiday scent in the spring and summer.  Right?)

Apples and Pumpkins and Fall; Oh My!

Fall is in the air! The baking and simmering aromas of apples and pumpkins flow through the house while crisp fallen leaves blow around in the chilly winds.

It's a heart-warming and seasonal tradition that extends into our Thanksgiving celebration.

When I asked my "Blogging Fifty" friends if they had any apple and pumpkin recipes or decor to share, they were so kind to send me their fabulous posts that I just couldn't do a small round up of 10 or so. It wouldn't be fair to all of them or to you, if I didn't share all of them.

However, there are a few very unique recipes that deserve highlighting.

Like this Roasted Southwest Pumpkin Stew created by Miz Helen's Country Cottage. Seriously, stew... it's just hearty. Perfect for the fall chill. And "southwest"? It's calling me.

Another unique menu item is this amazing Butternut Squash Tart with Tomatoes and Goat Cheese created by Garden Matter. This is my kind of lunch. I can't wait to try it.

Hummus is a great substitute for mayonnaise in sandwiches and wraps. I'm thinking this Pumpkin Hummus by Duct Tape and Denim is going to be amazing in a roasted turkey and lettuce wrap. What do you think?

How do you like those pumpkins? I love them! Thank you to Denyse for having us! We love creating together! 

Fall Indian Corn Door Decor

Ten days ago I bought 3 ears of Indian corn and 3 potted mums. 

Just preparing for fall. 

The only thing I've done with them is tie the corn together with twine and used them for a prop for a piece of furniture photo shoot. But I did place the mums at the front entrance. Watering daily.

My tradition for a full cold fall day is staying in the kitchen making a Virginia ham dinner with scalloped potatoes. It hasn't happened yet.

And nobody is complaining. We are fully enjoying an Indian Summer here. It's been gorgeous summer days and fall nights. In fact, I'm working up sweaty days rearranging rooms: Workshop. Office. Furniture Storage. And preparing for bathrooms to be put in. Hauling out, organizing, planning, and preparing a yard sale.

In the meantime, that corn. 

I needed to do something with them before the husks dried. 

After arranging them in a basket to go with the mums, I realized I was setting up a feast for the chipmunks.

I had to thrift for something to turn the corn into door decor. The corn itself is nice... but it needed something... color. Fall color. The thrift shop always has baskets of all sorts. So I scored this fruit tray. Then I snagged some burnt orange silk flowers I felt I was done with off the patio.

The fruit tray was plain. So I stained it to blend with the corn.
Who says stain is not a color? See how "Fall" looking it is now?

After the stain dried I hot glued the corn onto the tray. Leaving enough room of the twine for hanging the decor when finished.

I thought it was good enough with just the wicker tray. But decided some orange will be better for curb appeal. With the mighty hot glue gun, those flowers were on in minutes. Applying them just around the exposed edges of the tray was enough.

Even if I didn't like it, I could peel off the flowers.

But I like the splash of color!

It will go with the mums when they fully bloom.

The overall decor is simple. 

Yet effective.
I thought of garland full of leaves and acorns around the door... but that is overkill.

I'll stay with simple and easy on the eyes.
But it does scream for pumpkins. I think two is enough.
Okay... six. Three on each side. The rule to design is odd numbers and maybe a little symmetrical. Medium to small ones. That's all.
It's too early for Halloween, so I can get away with that!

Super easy and cheap.
Looks good.
It's just right.

According to the forecast, the ham dinner is coming up soon.

Halloween and Fall Tin Can Upcycles for Kids and Adults
