Stain Painted Accent Table

#minwaxfan 




Old 80's style table










1. Sanding and cleaning the table.

  




2. Painting the base.

Taped off the top and spray painted the legs and base. 






 3. Pencil drawing of the design. 
Drawn directly on the wood. 




 4. Choosing the stain colors and top coat.
Minwax Polyurethane for top coat, Special Walnut, Golden Oak and Gunstock stains for colors. 



5. Staining the design. 




Golden oak color for the center of the flower. 

Gunstock (the reddish tint), Special Walnut and Onyx (the solid ring)





6. Staining the remainder of the table top. 
Golden Oak for the entire table top.

7. I decided to add another infinity ring to the design, using Onyx and Gunstock. 




8. Then topcoat with polyurethane. 


















Now that certainly brightened up an old dull table!

    I just love this table, Robin! It's funny because I've been working on a spray paint and stain combo too, but I'm not sure how I want the top to look. Your design is so pretty! :)

    Only one time. During step 6.


    I used artists' brushes to "paint" the stain on the pencil drawing. Then, when dried, I rubbed on Golden Oak on the entire surface. After seeing more space for another infinity ring, I painted it on with the two darker stains, Gunstock and Onyx. When the dried, I sealed it with polyurethane. So the only stain rubbing was the entire surface with the Golden Oak.

    It's a dated piece and I agree with you, the design suits it. A little bit of country charm to it. It reminds me of the days when "folk art painting" was on PBS... when I was... eh-hem... a lot younger :)
